Black History Month was a wonderful opportunity for Mrs. Maggard's Spanish 1 classes to highlight notable Afro Latinos known for their contributions to social justice, diversity, music, fashion, film and television, sports etc.
The students read biographies, answered comprehension questions and reported to classmates their findings and then created a collaborative poster with pictures of: DJ Jigüe, Don Omar, Edgardo Armando Franco, Epsy Campbell, Esperanza Spalding, Gwen Ifill, José Celso Barbosa, La La Anthony, Mariano Rivera, Maritza Correia McClendon, Ozuna, Rosie Perez

Thank you to JP Rooney who surprised our teachers with lunch from Chipotle. Look how excited they were!

Middle School Students studied the life and work of Jacob Lawrence in Art class. They then selected either collage, painting, drawing or sculpture to create a Black History project inspired by Jacob Lawrence's subject matter - Toussaint L'Ouverture, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Life in Harlem, or Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. Once completed, students gave a 2-minute presentation to the class about their artwork. Here are some of their amazing pieces!
